“Fasting heals all diseases,” claims Paul Bragg’s book, The Miracle of Fasting. This work is read in Hunger Strike Breakfast, directed and written by Karolis Kaupinis.
In January 1991, thousands of people in Vilnius took to the streets to protest the Soviet occupation. To curb the demonstrations, the Russians took control of the media. Most of those fired from Lithuanian public broadcasting did not dare to resist, but the channel's announcer, Daiva, a familiar TV personality to all, decided to go on a hunger strike with a few other brave individuals.
Based on a true story, the film won awards for best costume design and make-up at the Lithuanian "Oscars." Kaupinis himself is a well-known TV journalist in Lithuania. He has spoken about the takeover of TV studios as his first childhood memory.
The film is part of Karhupuisto Film Festival's Lithuania focus.
