Matthew, a twenty-something shop assistant in Los Angeles, is at work when Oliver, an artist he admires, unexpectedly walks in. Matthew captures Oliver’s attention by playing a rare track over the shop’s speakers. A door to success and fame opens.
Staying on the inside and basking in the glow of celebrity become like a drug to Matthew as every member of Oliver’s team competes for the star’s attention. Lurker develops into a psychological thriller and an excruciating game of cat and mouse as the line between friendship and fandom begins to blur.
Premiered at Sundance, Lurker is the acclaimed and award-winning directorial debut of Alex Russell (Beef, The Bear). It brings the timeless rags-to-riches story into today’s world of social media, personal branding, and popular culture. Théodore Pellerin shines as Matthew, having captivated Karhupuisto audiences a year ago in Nino. Oliver is played with equal intensity by Archie Madekwe, known for Saltburn and Midsommar.
Kenny Beats’s superb score accompanies the story’s euphoric and nightmarish moments in the city of dreams.
The film will also have a second screening at the festival: Lurker, SAT 12.9, 9 PM – Alō
