Isabel is a young violinist who still lives with her parents and brother in New York. She earns money by performing with her friends at weddings, funerals, and even dates. When Isabel’s cellist ex tells her about an opening for a violinist in his orchestra, she decides to pursue the job—even though she still has feelings for him.

The film’s director, screenwriter, and star, Isabel Hagen, is a popular stand-up comedian and a Juilliard-trained violinist. Hagen’s years of experience as a musician in New York inspired this delightfully funny film, filled with hilariously awkward situations. Naturally, the cast members are real musicians—and Hagen’s real-life brother also plays her brother in the film.

On a String won the Best Screenplay Award at the prestigious Tribeca Festival, founded by Robert De Niro.
